• Moscow: Iskandar Chatlonij, the Moscow correspondent of the Tajik service of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty, is killed in his home by unknown with an ax. Chatlonij was engaged in research on human rights violations in Chechnya, for which the station had been repeatedly criticized by official agencies.
