Sequestrum

The term refers to a sequester dead tissue piece, which is demarcated from healthy tissue, such as a dead piece of bone in bone marrow inflammation. Sequester impede wound healing, which is why they are rejected by the body. If not, they must be removed surgically.

An inflammatory necrotic tissue reaction around a sequestrum is called the involucre.
