Sequoyah County, Oklahoma

Sequoyah County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Sallisaw.

Geography

The County is located in Eastern Oklahoma, bordering Arkansas and has an area of 1852 square kilometers, of which 106 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cherokee County, Adair County, Crawford County (Arkansas ), Sebastian County (Arkansas ), Le Flore County, Haskell County and Muskogee County.

History

Sequoyah County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Cherokee country. It was named for Sequoyah, a leader of the Cherokee.
