Serasker

Serasker or Seraskier ( Ottoman سرعسکر, IA water ʿ asker; Greek σερασκέρης ) was the highest rank in the Ottoman army and met the General and Field Marshal. The title was in 1826 after the reform of the army by Mahmud II created new and replaced the title Seyfiyye and the Agha at the Janissaries. The Serasker were two or three tails Ross.

With the Tanzimat reforms in 1839 was a Minister of War, who owned all-encompassing power, provided with the title. 1879 the power of the Serasker was limited by Abdulhamid II from 1908 and replaced by a defense minister.
