The Serbian State Guard (short SSW Serbian Српска државна стража / Srpska Drzavna straža, short СДС / SDS ) was the paramilitary Gendarmerie Association of Serbia during the Second World War.

The anti-communist Serbian State Guard collaborated with the Serbian Volunteer Corps, a Fascist party militia openly with the German occupying forces in Serbia. The SSE participated mainly in the struggle against the communist Tito 's Partisans and the extermination of the Jews.

Foundation

The police association was ( officially " government of national salvation ", Serbian Влада Националног Спаса / Vlada Nacionalnog Spasa ) established on February 10, 1942 by Milan Nedić, the Prime Minister of the Serbian puppet government. Made from the two police regiments of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and Drinski Dunavski, the Serbian State Guard around 17,000 man was strong when it was founded. The official foundation took place on March 3, 1942. The military leadership took over Colonel Jovan Trišić ( 1893-1974 ), later replaced by Major General Borivoje JONIC. In January 1943, the Serbian State Guard already counted 36 716 man.

Organization

Territorial divided the Serbian State Guard in the five oblasts (districts ) Belgrade, Kraljevo, Nis, Valjevo and Zaječar with one battalion. Each region was divided with other units in three Okruge (circles).

Internally, the Serbian State Guard was divided into " city guard " ( gradska straža ), "Land Guard " ( Poljska straža ), " village guard " ( Seljacka straža ) and a 2,500 -strong " Border Guard " ( Srpska granična straža ).

History

The Serbian State Guard was used in Serbia, especially in the fight against communist Tito's partisans.

On 6 October 1944, 5,000 men of the Serbian State Guard closed under Lieutenant-General Stefan Radovanovic Serbian irregulars, known as Chetniks in Bosnia and formed the first Serbian Striker Corps ( 1 Srpski udarni corpus ).

Approximately 3,000 men were assigned to the Todt Organization in Austria.

In March 1945, 2,000 men joined in Slovenia at the Chetnik Šumadija Division under Miodrag Damjanović and capitulated in May 1945 against British forces in Austria.
