Serdar DenktaÅŸ

Serdar Denktash R. (* 1959 in Nicosia) is a Turkish politician and served between 2004 and 2006 Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Denktash was born in 1959 as son of Northern Cyprus President Rauf Denktash later. After training as a printer in London, he studied economics at the University of Cardiff.

In 1986, Denktash the " Cultural Association of Northern Cyprus" (Turkish: Kuzey Kıbrıs Kültür Derneği ) and was then four years president of the association. Also at this time, he founded the "Association for Young business people in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" (Turkish: KKTC Genç İşadamları Derneği ) and also took over there in the chair. By 1990, Serdar Denktash in the private sector, trade and industry worked. During the 1990 elections Denktash decided to get involved as a politician. In May 1992 he founded - together with political friends - the DP - Democratic Party, the presidency of which he took over. He was elected during the early elections to MPs in 1993. In 2000, he resigned as president of the DP, but was reappointed to this position in 2002.

Of 16 January 2004 to 25 September 2006, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

He speaks English and German, is married and has three children.
