Sereno Watson

Sereno Watson ( born December 1, 1826 in East Windsor Hill, Connecticut; † 9 March 1892 in Cambridge ( Massachusetts)) was a North American botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " S.Watson ".

Life

Watson grew up on a farm in Connecticut. After graduating from Yale University in 1847, he went to a wide variety of activities. 1866 to 1867 he studied at the Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University chemistry and mineralogy. He then went to California. He participated in the expedition of Clarence King in part to the geological exploration of the 40th parallel. After the expedition botanist William Whitman Bailey (1843-1914) turned out by illness, Watson got transferred its task; its botanical report reached high quality, even though Watson could not show a study of botany. Asa Gray was Watson's work so much that he took him as an assistant at the Gray Herbarium, where he was in 1892 curator from 1874 until his death year.
