Sergach
Sergatsch (Russian Сергач ) is a town in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast (Russia) with 21 386 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located about 150 km southeast of Nizhny Novgorod on the Oblasthauptstadt Pjana, a left tributary of the opening into the Volga Sura.
Sergatsch is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
History
A place called Sergaewskaja first appeared in Nizhny Novgorod management books of the year 1618. The name was probably derived from the Mordvinian Seryoga form of the Russian name of Sergei.
The first documentary mention as Sergatsch village is from the year 1649.
1779 the municipal law as an administrative center of a circle ( Ujesds ) was awarded.

Culture and sights
In the Sergatsch John's Church ( церковь Иоанна Милостивого / Tserkov Ioanna Milostiwogo ), the Cathedral of the Icon of Our Lady of Vladimir, shortly Vladimir Cathedral ( Владимирский собор / Wladimirski Sobor ) of 1820 and received in 1831. The station building from the beginning of the 20th century is located virtually in the original state.
The city has a museum of local history.
In the nearby village Andreevka is an old mosque in Lopatino the Nikolai Church ( церковь Никольская / Nikolskaja Tserkov ).
Economy and infrastructure
In Sergatsch there are farms instrument engineering, food (sugar factory) and textile industry
The city lies on the opened on this section 1918 railway Moscow -Kazan Arzamas ( kilometer 524).
