Sergei Aschwanden

Sergei Aschwanden ( born December 22, 1975 in Bern ) is a Swiss judoka and owner of 6th Dan.

The son of a Swiss father and a Kenyan mother spent the first seven years of his life in Bern. Since then he has lived in Bussigny -pres-Lausanne.

Among his greatest achievements are the European Championship title in 2000 and 2003, the World Championship silver medal in 2003, the 3rd place at the 2001 World Championships and the bronze medal at the Olympic Games 2008. Overall, he won eight times the Swiss Championship, which he won six titles at the elite.

His first participation in the Olympic Summer Games was in 2000 in Sydney, where he but been eliminated in the first round to eventual bronze winner Aleksei Budõlin. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, he was in the category Light Middleweight (up to 81 kg ) started as any medal hope, then difference but surprisingly again in the first round. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he joined in the middleweight ( 90 kg ) once for Switzerland, winning the bronze medal. Meanwhile coach was Leo hero, who was elected to the Swiss coach of the year 2008 due Aschwanden's success, whereas Aschwanden was even though nominated for Sportsman of the Year, the election but finished in fourth place.

2006 Aschwanden has started a sports studies at the sports school in Magglingen. He currently teaches at the judo club Mikami in Lausanne ( Switzerland ).
