Sergei Pavlovich Baltacha

Sergei Pavlovich Baltatscha (Ukrainian Сергій Павлович Балтача, Russian Сергей Павлович Балтача; born February 17, 1958 in Mariupol, Ukrainian SSR ) is a retired Soviet football player.

Career

Sergei Baltatscha belonged to since 1977, the first team of Dynamo Kiev. With this team he won 1980, 1981, 1985 and 1986, a total of four Soviet Championship and 1978, 1982, 1985 and 1987, the Soviet Cup. In the 1985/86 season, the defensive midfielder won with Dynamo Kiev the European Cup of Cup Winners' Cup.

For the Soviet national team, he played 1980-1988 a total of 45 times, scoring two goals. In football tournament of the 1980 Olympic Games he won the bronze medal with the Soviet team. In 1982 Baltatscha participated in the World Cup in Spain and in 1988 he was in the squad of the Soviet team at the European Championships in Germany.

In 1988 Baltatscha moved as one of the first Soviet footballers abroad to Ipswich Town. From 1990 to 1993 he played in Scotland for FC St. Johnstone. In 1993 he moved to Inverness Caledonian Thistle where he ended his active career in 1995.

Baltatscha now lives in the UK, where he works as a sports teacher. His son Sergei ( born 1979 ) played as a professional footballer, among others, for the FC St. Mirren and came to three appearances for the Scottish U -21 national team. His daughter Olena Baltatscha is a British professional tennis player.
