Sergey Katanandov

Sergei Leonidovich Katanandov (Russian: Сергей Леонидович Катанандов; * April 21, 1955 in Petrozavodsk, Karelian Bear SSR, Soviet Union ) is a Russian politician. From 1998 to 30 June 2010 he was a political leader of the Russian republic of Karelia.

Sergei Katanandov closed in 1977 to study at the faculty of industrial and residential buildings at the State University of Petrozavodsk from. After that he worked until 1988 as an engineer in the State Construction " Petrosawodskstroi ". 1988 Katanandov was elected to the Soviet city of Petrozavodsk. In December 1990 he was elected mayor of his native city. In 1996, Katanandov a law degree at an academy for civil servants in Saint Petersburg. On May 17, 1998, he won election to the Karelian head of government with 49.48 % of the vote against incumbent Viktor Stepanov. On 1 July 1998 he took office and was re-elected on 28 April 2002 with 53.35 % of votes. For a third term, he was - proposed in 2006 by Russian President Vladimir Putin - under the amended Russian constitution. The Karelian parliament approved the proposal on March 3, 2006.
