Sergey, Switzerland

Sergey is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Sergey is on 612 m above sea level. M., 4 km north- west of Orbe and 11 km west-southwest of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The farming village extends on the Jura plateau between the Orbeebene and the Jura.

The area of ​​only just 1.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Jura plateau. In the Bois Gillard is at 640 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Sergey. In the south, the municipality of soil extends to the edge of the forest Chassagne, while sunk in the east of Bach Ruisseau du Vua and a right Seitentälchen in the plateau. Population

With 143 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Sergey is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 98.2 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 0.9 % and 0.9 % speak Dutch ( as of 2000). The population of Sergey amounted in 1900 to 113 inhabitants. It was then recorded until 1970, a decrease of 71 inhabitants, since then the population has increased slightly again.

Economy

Sergey is a dominantly agricultural village today. On the fertile soils of the Jura plateau agriculture is mainly operated near the village there are also fruit trees. History

A grave mounds from the late Iron Age evidence of an early settlement of the municipality. The village was probably built in the early 14th century. In the Middle Ages Sergey was part of the reign of Les Clées. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village was part of the Kastlanei Les Clées under the bailiwick of Yverdon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Sergey belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud.
