Sergey Volkov (chess player)

Sergei Volkov (Russian: Сергей Викторович Волков, spelling the World Chess Federation FIDE Sergey Volkov, born February 7, 1974 in Saransk, Mordovia ) is a Russian chess player. Since 1998, he has the title of chess grandmaster.

Life

Chess training he got in Saransker Pioneer Palace and at the All-Russia Chess Grandmasters school ( ACGS ).

Achievements

With the Russian national team, he participated in Batumi at the European Team Championship in 1999. In June 2000, he was Russia in Samara 's singles champion. In the single European Championship 2002 in Batumi, he finished in third place, 2008 in Plovdiv he finished third again. The Rilton Cup in Stockholm he won the 2004 /05 ( with 7 points from 9 games ) and 2010/11 ( 8 of 9 ).

The Russian team championship he won in 2000 in Smolensk and 2001 in Tomsk with Lentransgas Saint Petersburg. With Mikhail Chigorin St. Petersburg he had occupied at the European Club Cup 2000 in Neum second place, while an individual silver medal for his performance of 5.5 points from seven games on the sixth board received ( Elo performance of 2743 ). He moved from Saint Petersburg Mordvinian club TPS Saransk. When Club Cup 2007 in Kemer and in the Macedonian team championship, he played for Alkaloid Skopje. He also played in the French League 1.

His current Elo rating is 2607 (as of July 2009). His previous highest Elo rating was 2659 in July 2007, most recently in the top 50 of the FIDE world ranking list, he was in April 2007.
