Sergio Bertoni

Sergio Bertoni ( born September 23, 1915 in Pisa, Italy, † February 15, 1995 in La Spezia, Italy ) was an Italian football player and coach.

Career

Sergio Bertoni began his career in his hometown at Pisa Calcio, where he from 1932 to 1938, first in the Prima Divisione and later in the series B played. In 1936 he took part with the Italian National Team at the Olympic Summer Games in Berlin. There could Bertoni, after a 2-1 victory in the final against Austria, winning the gold medal. Two years later, Sergio Bertoni was after he had scored in the season 1937/38, in 30 Series B games 22 goals for Pisa, at the World Cup in France in the squad of the Italians. Although he completed a single game in this tournament, he was able to celebrate winning the World Cup title with the trained by Vittorio Pozzo team.

After the World Cup victory moved Sergio Bertoni, now viewed as one of the greatest talents of Italian football and a possible successor to Giuseppe Meazza, to Genoa. Even before the start of the season 1938/39, however, he retired to a fraction of the tibia and fibula and therefore played only one game in his first Serie A season. The injury meant for Bertonis career a bend, from which he never fully recovered. Although he played until 1943 and 1945/46, for Genoa in Serie A and also contested the 1944 discharged war championship with the Grifoni, scoring, however, partly because it was used on many different positions, only a few gates.

1946 moved to Brescia Calcio Bertoni, a year later for Modena FC. In the 1949/50 season, he finally ended his career at Spezia Calcio in Serie B. He then worked for 1950/51, 1955 to 1957 and 1961/62 as a trainer in La Spezia.

Although he played only six caps for Italy, Sergio Bertoni along with Alfredo Foni, Ugo Locatelli Pietro Rava and one of only four Italians who were in their careers, both world champions, and Olympic champion.
