Sergio Canales Madrazo ( born February 16, 1991, Santander, Cantabria ) is a Spanish football player.

Club career

Canales began his career as a ten year old in the youth of his home club Racing Santander.

In 2006, he was a key component of a player exchange between Santander and Deportivo La Coruña. Depor wanted to commit to this time the Israeli goalkeeper Dudu Aouate, Santander initiate the return of Pedro Munitis in return. One had long not agree on the transfer arrangements, whereby a transfer Posse broke. In effect, the rights of a total of eight players from both teams were postponed to allow the change. Among other things, Santander was doing from 50 percent of the transfer rights of his youth player Canales at Deportivo.

As a result Canales signed in Santander a contract until 2010 and rose to 2008/ 09 on the first team. On 18 September 2008 he made his professional debut in a 1-0 victory in the UEFA Cup 2008/ 09 against the Finnish club FC Honka. On October 5, 2008 will be the first use in the Primera División followed as part of a 1-0 victory at Osasuna. Overall, he graduated in the 2008 /09 eight appearances for Racing Santander. In the following season 2009/10 he was promoted with 26 league inserts and six Torerfolgen one of the " shooting stars " of the Primera División.

For the 2010/11 season Canales joined the Spanish giants Real Madrid. He signed a contract until the summer of 2016. However, in the Spanish capital itself Canales could not prevail. Accordingly, for 2011/12 season he moved on loan to FC Valencia. In Valencia, Canales was a regular player until he end of October 2011 a torn ACL drew upon. Shortly after his comeback in April 2012, he tore the ACL again. Nevertheless, he was signed up by the end of his loan contract in the summer 2012 that it issued FC Valencia.

On January 31, 2014 Canales moved to Real Sociedad. He signed a contract until 30 June 2018.


As a member of the Spanish U -17 national team, he was in Turkey in 2008 European Champion.

In 2008 he took the U -18 national team in the Copa del Atlántico in his home country part, which he could also win with the team. He was voted the best player of the tournament.

With the U-19 national team, he already retired at the European Championships 2009 in the first round, but he reached a year later at the European Championships in France in the final.
