Sergio Caprari

Sergio Caprari ( born July 12, 1932 in Civita Castellana, Italy ) is an Italian former featherweight boxer.

Amateur

Caprari won in 1952 at the Olympic Games in Helsinki the silver medal in the featherweight. In the final he was defeated by Czech Jan Zachara.

Professional

In the same year he turned professional and started with a group of 28 fights without defeat in two draws. In August 1956 he was Italian champion at featherweight. He defended the title twice in total. Even the title of the Italian lightweight champion, he was able to secure in May 1958. Since Caprari but moved to the featherweight again, he did not defend this item. In August 1958 he was European champion at featherweight with a win over the Belgian Jean Sneyers. A year later he lost the title to Frenchman Gracieux Lamperti.

1959 Caprari lost to eventual champion Davey Moore. Trying to be world champion in the super featherweight, failed miserably in December 1961. Against the Filipino Flash Elorde Caprari had no chance and was already in the first round three times to the ground. After this fiasco, he hung up his boxing gloves on the nail.
