Sergio Siorpaes

Sergio Siorpaes ( born July 20, 1934 in Cortina d' Ampezzo ) is a former Italian bobsledder and world champion.

Career

Siorpaes won his first international medal as a brakeman Sergio Zardini, with whom he won the World Cup 1958 in the two- silver behind the other Italian Eugenio Monti Bob with and Renzo Alvera. Siorpaes then moved even in Monti's team. In 1960 he won together with Monti, Furio Nordio and Alvera gold in four-man bobsleigh at the World Cup in his home town of Cortina d' Ampezzo. This World Cup was a replacement for it that the Bobwettbewerbe one time were not at the Olympic Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley on the Olympic program. The following year, the World Championships in Lake Placid, the other U.S. Olympic town took place. Siorpaes won the Bob Monti, both in the two- man and four as well as the title. After Monti and Siorpaes 1962 did not participate in the World Championships, they won in 1963 in Igls bobsleigh. On the track in Igls also Bobwettbewerbe took place at the Olympic Games in 1964. Sergio Siorpaes was a skilled blacksmith. He invented the movable front rail, when Bob and one of the main carriage farmers in the history of this sport.
