Serial Presence Detect

Serial Presence Detect (SPD ) is a method for automatic configuration of memory modules in a computer system (mainly personal computers ( PC) ).

Typically, the relevant information to the storage module ( memory capacity, power supply voltage, timing, the refresh requirements, latency, etc.) on a separate read-only memory ( EEPROM serial block) can be stored. The information stored there include 128-256 bytes.

PCs lead after turning a self-test (Power On Self-Test POST); this includes, inter alia, the automatic discovery and configuration of the installed hardware. In this framework, the information is read from the EEPROM, and the memory controller is then tuned to the built-in memory ( configured).
