Serra do Mar

The Serra do Mar (Portuguese: Mountain Range of the Sea) is a 1500 km long mountain range in southeastern Brazil in the states of Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina, which runs parallel to the Atlantic Ocean. Its average altitude is between 500 and 1300 meters and its highest point is Pico Maior de Friburgo with 2316 m.

As the mountains are not deployed continuously, were given to the different parts have different names, eg Serra de Bocaina, Serra de Paranapiacaba, Serra Negra Serra do Indaiá. The Serra do Mar was once passed by rainforest, but this was largely deforested.
