Serra Geral

The Serra Geral is a mountain country at the breaking edge of the plateau to the coastal region on the border of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina in southern Brazil. In a high level of Serra Geral, Campo dos Padres, are the highest peaks in the state of Santa Catarina.

National park

On 20 May 1992, the Parque Nacional da Serra Geral was founded with an area of 173 km ² in the municipalities Cambará do Sul, São Francisco de Paula, Jacinto Machado and Praia Grande. It is the extension of the National Park Aparados da Serra.

Impressive are canyons, waterfalls and some 100 m high vertical walls. Are known Fortaleza and Malacara. Very often arises fog that hinders the view.

Because of the large differences in altitude there is both rain forest and upland forest with Araucaria. Accordingly, the wildlife is diverse. Some of the mammals maned wolf, howler monkey, ocelot. Many birds can be seen: Seriemas, Azure Rabe and others.

The park is easily accessible. Only the hiking trails spectacular sights, to stay one is dependent on the tent.
