Serrig

Serrig is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Saar castle. Serrig is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geographical location

The wine village located in Saar castle on the Saar. Community members are domain, house Heiligenborn, Hofgut Serrig, hunting lodge Neunhäuser (zip code 54314 ), Saar Castle Rock, Serriger valley, winery and vineyard Saarstein Würzberg.

History

The territory of the town was probably inhabited in Celtic times, after which the oldest recorded place name suggesting " Serviacum " from the year 949. This building is (now Bernkastel- Staadt ) in connection with the lie on the opposite side Saar fortified mountain village to see. Also, Roman remains were found in Serrig. After the resignation of Ortsbürgermeisters Franz -Josef Neises after 18 years in office, Serrig chose April 1, 2012 a new mayor. There was a choice Egbert Adam (CDU) and Ulf Milanese ( SPD). With 51.14 % of the vote Egbert Adam was selected and appointed on 20 April for the mayor.

Attractions

In Serrig are the southernmost vineyards in the Saar region, so it is referred to as the "Gateway to the Saar wine." In over 90 percent of the under vines Riesling is grown.

Is dominated the townscape by the Catholic parish church of St. Martin ( 1895), the high above the village of Castle Rock Saar ( former factory of sparkling wines ), Schloss Saarstein and the former State Weinbaudomäne, which is located above the village is surrounded by vineyards. Viniculture

Serrig part of the " wine field Saar " in the Mosel region. In place eleven wineries operate, the area under vines is 66 ha Approximately 97 % of the cultivated wine are white wine varietals ( 2007).

Traffic

Serrig is located on the main road 51 Mettlach - Trier, which was broadened and expanded in the 1970s as part of the Saar channeling. In addition Serrig is regional train station on the railway line Saarbrücken - Trier.
