Servas International

SERVAS INTERNATIONAL is an international, non-governmental federation of national SERVAS groups that make up a system of hosts and travelers, which is to promote world peace, mutual support, recognition and understanding of each other, by and opportunities for deeper and more personal contacts with people from other cultures with others, creates experiential background.

In over 160 countries SERVAS is represented. Most of the 20,000 hosts live in North America and in European countries as well as Israel, India, Australia and New Zealand. In Germany there are about 1,400 hosts.

Servas International is a Non-Governmental Organization ( NGO) in consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council.

All SERVAS groups are honorary organized. Before starting either in the host directory, or to travel with SERVAS, a personal interview with a SERVAS member must be performed. This is for the safety of travelers and hosts of different and thus SERVAS of travel portals based on pure online registration.

In Germany SERVAS is a registered charity.

History

SERVAS was founded in 1949 by students at Bob Luitweiler in Denmark as " Open Door System of Work, Study and Travel". Later renamed the service in order SERVAS what Esperanto " you serve " means to bring the idea of service to a global understanding expressed.

Programs

Unlike other hosting services Servas differs between travelers and hosts. Costs for hosts are minimal. Travelers have something to pay more to get host addresses of the country to be visited (depending on country -specific setting of 10 to 85 U.S. dollars per year, International travelers ' and 0 to 50 U.S. dollars per year, Domestic travelers ').
