Service Civil International

Service Civil International ( SCI) is an international NGO ( non-governmental organization ), the organizing relief and peace services on a voluntary basis. In particular, offers the SCI international workcamps and longer-term voluntary services. The organization in 1920 by Swiss engineer Pierre Ceresole, Rodolfo Olgiati was founded in 1935 officiated as Secretary. The SCI has consultative status with the Euro Europe, and is a member of the umbrella organizations CCIVS, YFJ AVSO and UNITED for Intercultural Action. In 1987, the organization was awarded by the United Nations Messenger of Peace award. The SCI has branches in over 35 countries.

The German branch was re-established after the Second World War as an International Volunteer Service for Peace IFDF. The origins date back to the beginning of the century, on the German side members of the youth movement they have taken part, such as Erich Mohr, the early (1924 ) for the German - French understanding championed. In Austria, the SCI in 1947 was founded and is organized purely honorary.

In France, the national branch supported during the 2nd World War, the concealed location of Jewish refugees, especially children, in the area in and around Le Chambon- sur -Lignon, along with many other organizations. This many people could be saved from the Germans.
