Sesheke

Sesheke is a small town on the Zambezi River in the Western Province of Zambia. The city has a border crossing into Namibia Katima Mulilo on the bridge in the town Katima Mulilo. Sesheke has 21,796 inhabitants ( 2006 estimate ), and is 800 meters above sea level. It is the seat of the administration of the district of the same with 78 169 inhabitants ( 2000 census ).

Sesheke is a small administrative town 205 km west of Livingstone with a long tradition as a chief town of the wider region until well into Botswana. The road between the two places, part of the Trans Caprivi Highway was resurfaced in 2005 and continues on to Mongu. This region is called " Kalahari sand - wetland ". The arid surrounding area is well known for its sand, which passes completely beyond the Zambezi River in the Kalahari and the Namib. In the riparian areas of the Zambezi in turn are fertile floodplains.

Agriculture is dominated by maize, which slowly changed towards millet and rice, which are dry - flood- resistant, respectively.
