Sesquioxide
Sesquioxide are chemical compounds, more oxides, a ratio of the metal or semi-metal to oxygen of 1:. 1.5, ( sesqui = " half fold " )
Therefore have sesquioxides with a stoichiometrically exact composition of the empirical formula A2O3, where A is the oxidation number of III owns. Sesquioxides mostly form crystalline solids.
Examples of Metallsesquioxide:
- Iron (III ) oxide Fe2O3: iron sesquioxide, in nature as the mineral hematite
- Aluminum oxide Al2O3: aluminum sesquioxide, in nature as the mineral corundum
- The oxides of the trivalent rare-earth metals
In naturally developed soils are especially iron (III ) oxide, manganese ( III ) oxide and aluminum oxide is important. The term therefore is sesquioxides in soil science for these three compounds.
Examples of Halbmetallsesquioxide:
- Boric oxide B2O3 ( Borsesquioxid )
- Arsenic (III ) oxide, As2O3 ( Arsensesquioxid )
Sesquioxides in the main group 1:
- Rb4O6 → [ (Rb ) 4 ( O22 - ) ( O2 ) 2]
