Set-off (law)

Under -off is defined as a legal institution in which reciprocal balances offset against one another ( compensated) are. The positive aspect of the legal set-off in the individual jurisdictions is different: In the countries of the common law set-off is regarded as a process- law institution, whereas the offset is usually classified in the substantive law in civil law countries. Even within the civil law family show significant differences: the set-off must be explained according to German law, while off automatically enters the countries of the Roman legal system of law.
