It is located at 37.87 ° North latitude and 25.78 degrees west longitude to about 260 m height inside the volcanic Caldeira Sete Cidades on the edge of the lake. Its name refers to legends of seven cities in the Atlantic and appeared in the Portuguese language field more often.

Sete Cidades has a primary school, a church, São Nicolau, and a football pitch.
