SETI Institute

The SETI Institute (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence ) is a non-profit non-governmental organization that deals with the search for intelligent extraterrestrial life. It was founded on 20 November 1984 as a private nonprofit corporation and is supported by a variety sponsors. These include NASA, but also companies like Sun Microsystems and Hewlett Packard. Headquartered in Mountain View / California.

The goal of the SETI Institute is exploring, understanding and explanation of the origin of nature and life in the universe. To this end, radio telescopes are used. In early 2011, the Institute had to lack of funds the research with the Allen Telescope Array interrupt. In November 2011, the research with the ATA could be continued after further financing could be provided by private donors and the Air Force Space Command.
