History
The area of today's circle was inhabited at least since the Bronze Age. A Roman road passed since the 2nd century here. After the invasion of the Visigoths and the Suevi in the Roman province of Lusitania here was the family of the Count Severi ( Portuguese: Conde de Severi ) down, a brother of the Visigoth Theodoric II To his villa has developed since the early 5th century AD BC the current location and place name Sever, with the addition of the flowing Rio Vouga here. The residence of the Count said to have stood where now stands the principal church of the town. King Manuel I granted Sever do Vouga in 1514 city rights ( Foral ).
