Severia

Sewerien or Severien ( ukrain. Сіверія / Siwerija or Сіверщина / Siwerschtschyna ) is a historical formerly populated by the tribe of the Sewerjanen landscape in the northern Ukraine and southwestern Russia, with the center Novhorod - Seversky at the Ukrainian- Russian border. Other cities were Chernigov, Putywl, Hluchiw, Ljubetsch, Kursk, Rylsk, Starodub, Trubchevsk, Sevsk, Bryansk and Belgorod.

For the first time it is mentioned in the Primary Chronicle, as the Khazars tributary area. Conquered the end of the 9th century to the Kievan Rus Oleg of Novgorod, the Principality of Chernigov formed in 1024, from which cleaves in 1097 the Principality Sewerien. Both principalities destroyed by the Mongols in 1223 and incorporated in 1239 in a joint Principality of Bryansk. This comes to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania 1320, from 1503 to the Principality of Moscow. 1619 it goes to Poland, 1667 back to Russia. 1919, the area between the Ukrainian and Russian Soviet Republic was divided.
