Severian of Gabala

Severian of Gabala ( * before 380; ? † after 408 () ) was an East Roman bishop of Gabala in Syria today Dschabala (?).

Little is known about his background and career. Narrated in the church history of Socrates and Sozomen, that he appears against 398/399 as a preacher in Constantinople Opel. He was, Byzantine According to sources within the Church a counterpart of John Chrysostom, Bishop of Constantinople Opel.

Severian is attributed to the following statement: "The earth is flat and the sun does not run on her during the night but wanders through the northern part, as if hidden by a wall. " (see also the surface ground)

Severian is sometimes confused with Eusebius of Emesa.
