Sevier County (Tennessee)
The County is located in Eastern Tennessee, bordering North Carolina and has an area of 1113 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jefferson County, Cocke County, Haywood County ( North Carolina), Swain County ( North Carolina), Blount County and Knox County.
Sevier County was formed on September 28, 1794 from parts of Jefferson County. It was named ( a consortium of eight counties in Tennessee as a separate state ) and later the first governor of Tennessee to John Sevier, the only governor of the State of Franklin.
In Harrisburg off U.S. Highway 441, is the historic Harrisburg Covered Bridge, which was recorded in 1975 by the NRHP as a historic monument (NRHP ID 75001777 ).
According to the census in 2000 lived in Sevier County 71 170 people in 28 467 households, and 20,837 families. The population density was 46 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.27 percent White, 0.56 percent African American, 0.32 percent Native American, 0.55 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.42 percent from other races groups; 0.85 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.24 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 28 467 households out of which 30.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.3 percent were married couples living together, 10.1 percent were single mothers and 26.8 percent were non-families. 22.0 percent of all households and 7.9 percent lived in persons aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average household size was 2.88 people.
23.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.3 percent between 18 and 24, 29.8 percent between 25 and 44, 26.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.6 percent were older than 65, the average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 34,719, and the median income for a family was $ 40,474. Males have a median income of $ 27,139, women $ 20,646. The per capita income was $ 18,064. 8.2 percent of families and 10.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
