Sevier County (Tennessee)

Sevier County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Sevierville.

Geography

The County is located in Eastern Tennessee, bordering North Carolina and has an area of ​​1113 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jefferson County, Cocke County, Haywood County ( North Carolina), Swain County ( North Carolina), Blount County and Knox County.

History

Sevier County was formed on September 28, 1794 from parts of Jefferson County. It was named ( a consortium of eight counties in Tennessee as a separate state ) and later the first governor of Tennessee to John Sevier, the only governor of the State of Franklin.

In Harrisburg off U.S. Highway 441, is the historic Harrisburg Covered Bridge, which was recorded in 1975 by the NRHP as a historic monument (NRHP ID 75001777 ).
