Sewall S. Farwell

Sewall Spaulding Farwell ( born April 26, 1834 in Keene, Coshocton County, Ohio; † September 21, 1909 in Monticello, Iowa ) was an American politician. Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Sewall Farwell attended the public schools of his home including a private school in Cleveland. In 1852 he moved to Iowa, where he worked in agriculture. During the Civil War he entered the Union Army up to Major. He took part in several battles.

Politically, Farwell member of the Republican Party. Between 1865 and 1869 he sat in the Senate of Iowa. After that, he was employed from 1869 to 1873 with the tax authority. In 1880 he was in the second electoral district of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Hiram Price on March 4, 1881. But as he said Democrats Jeremiah Henry Murphy defeated in the next elections, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1883.

After his time in the House of Representatives was Farwell President of the Monticello State Bank. He died on September 21, 1909 in Monticello and was also buried there.
