Seward's Day

The Seward 's Day is a public holiday in Alaska. It is celebrated on the last Monday in March and commemorates the signing of the contract for the purchase of Alaska from Russia on 30 March 1867.

Named is the holiday after William H. Seward, the former Secretary of State, who had negotiated the treaty with Russia.

The formal handover of the Russian possessions to the United States is thought with the Alaska Day on October 18.
