Seymour Cassel

Seymour Cassel ( born January 22, 1935 in Detroit ) is an American actor.

Life

Cassel studied acting at the American Theatre Wing and the Actors Studio. He made his debut in a small supporting role in the film drama shadow of John Cassavetes from the year 1959. For his role of Chet in the film drama faces, also directed by Cassavetes, 1969, he was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor and won the National Society of Film Critics Award. In the action film The Tiger ( 1986) he appeared alongside Gary Busey and Yaphet Kotto. For his role in the comedy In the Soup - All Cinema ( 1992) he won a special prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Cassel played in the movie Indecent Proposal (1993 ), the role of Mr. Shackleford, the driver and confidant of John Gage, the Robert Redford played. From 1994 to 1995 he was in the television series Under Suspicion - to see the corrupt policeman in the role of Mickey Schwartz. In the comedy Café Blue Eyes - Insomniac (1996 ) he played the sympathetic cafe owner Leo. He was honored for his life's work with a price of Malibu Film Festival in 1999, in 2003 was followed by a prize of Rhode Iceland International Film Festival. In 2009 he was awarded the Indie Icon Award at the San Diego Film Festival.

Cassel was in the years 1964-1983 married to actress Elizabeth Deering and has two children.

In 2012, a new actor award was presented at the Filmfest Oldenburg introduced and named after Seymour Cassel.
