Seyoum Mesfin

Seyoum Mesfin ( born January 25, 1949 in Adigrat, Tigray region, Ethiopia ) is an Ethiopian politician, including Secretary of State.

Biography

Mesfin, after obtaining his education at Bahar Dar Polytechnic Institute, a four-year degree at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Addis Ababa.

Later, he joined the People's Liberation Front was founded in 1975 by Tigray ( TPLF ), and rose to become a leading persons on within its executive body. Later he also became chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Revolutionary Democratic Front of the Ethiopian People ( EPRDF ) and belonged in this function the executive boards of TPLF and EPRDF to.

After with the support of Eriterischen People's Liberation Front ( EPLF ) of the then belonging to Ethiopia Eritrea successful overthrow of the regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam in May 1991 he was appointed foreign minister in the government of Meles Zenawi and exercises this office until 2010.

On 28 December 2004, he stopped in front of the UN General Assembly in New York a speech on policy in the region, in particular the relationship of Ethiopia to Eritrea and Somalia. In his capacity as Foreign Minister, he sat down as a partner of the United States for the fight against terrorism in the Horn of Africa, and later defended both the invasion of Ethiopian troops in Somalia on December 24, 2006 as a success.
