Band History
The SFJAZZ Collective ( SF stands for San Francisco) was founded by Joshua Redman in 2004 as a project for the San Francisco Jazz Festival and directed until 2007. Besides Redman belonged to the octet in the first occupation and Others Bobby Hutcherson, Renee Rosnes, Nicholas Payton, Miguel Zenón, Josh Roseman, Robert Hurst and Brian Blade; acted as arranger Gil Goldstein.
The collective devoted his programs from the beginning each the work of a style icon, the musician of the Modern Jazz: In the founding year Ornette Coleman, then John Coltrane (2005), Herbie Hancock (2006), Thelonious Monk ( 2007), Wayne Shorter (2008), McCoy Tyner (2009) and Horace Silver (2010). The members also write compositions for the ensemble and the stage presentation of the composer took from 2007 in each case the role of the band leader a.
