Planning

It was planned, the stadium expansion in two phases: The first phase of construction, the stadium was first with a rank. Overall, it has 19,060 seats and another 11,034 standing places. The lodges offer further 520 guests and 46 courses have been built for wheelchair users. In order for the stadium reached a total capacity of 30,660 seats. In a possible second stage, the stadium will provide full with chairs 39 880 spectators, extendable by conversion of sitting to standing to 49,000. On 16 November 2007 began with the construction.

End of July 2008 requested the leaders of the new building at the Augsburg Stadium Building Committee for cost reasons, a different exterior facade. The glass, transparent cover should be replaced by a structure made of aluminum tubes, which you can also illuminate. Also a steel cable design was talking, but was again a little later discarded. In December 2008, the FCA finally put a planning application for the aluminum tube construction, on which agreement was reached in February 2009. Short term also a façade of photovoltaic modules was planned, but was quickly rejected for cost reasons. 2011, the FCA was exempted from the obligation to build a facade. An outline of the Augsburg Rosenau Stadium is no longer considered since February 2009.

Terrain and financing

The new arena was built in Augsburg south on the highway 17 and got a connection to the tram network. The distance to the road amounts to only about 40 meters.

The HBM stadiums and sports facilities GmbH from Neuss built the arena for 45 million euros as a pure football stadium without a track and field facility. The recognized construction cost of about 1300 Euros per seat are low compared to other stadiums.

The city of Augsburg presented the six -acre plot of land in the planning area Goeggingen available and invested about 13 million euros in infrastructure, including a grant of seven million euros for the outdoor facilities and 2,500 parking spaces. The financing of the stadium construction costs of about 45 million came

  • With 25 million euros by means of a group to the FCA President Walther Seinsch,
  • With 5 million euros by the Free State of Bavaria and
  • With 15 million euros by borrowing.

Climate neutrality

SGL Arena (formerly impuls arena ) is the first carbon-neutral football stadium in the world, although the originally planned photovoltaic system was not installed. Plans for the installation on the facade have been left for reasons of cost incurred. The plans for the parking canopy failed because of the previously established greenways. Was achieved climate neutrality by environmental heat pumps and six each 40 meters deep wells, which produce the desired temperature via heat exchangers. A bio natural gas boiler also provides the necessary peak load times during a game energy.

For this, the FC Augsburg, Lech Werke AG and Stadtwerke Augsburg received 12 KUMAS Environment Award. In addition, the stadium was named one of the "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" in 2011.

Use

On 29 October 2009, the stadium was sold out for the first time in the match of the Women's National Team against the USA. At the same time, this meant the second highest number of audience at this time in a women's soccer game in Germany.
