Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal

Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel (Tib. dbang rnam rgyal ngag zhabs Drung, * 1594, † 1651) was the founder of Bhutan. He established the Drukpa Kagyu school as one of the major schools of Tibetan Buddhism. In the valley of Thimphu 1620 he founded the Monastery Cheri.
