Shabono

A Shapono, partly also to be found in the spelling Shabono, is the name for a round house where the Yanomami live in South America.

Nature

It is built mainly of posts, vines and leaves and takes about two years - after that it is usually burned (due to parasitic or annoying insects). In the center is a large uncovered court, only the edges are covered. The Yanomami live here with up to seven families - each has it own private area ( with fireplace ).
