Shadyside is a village situated on the Ohio River in Belmont County ( Ohio) in the United States. Shadyside is part of the Wheeling (West Virginia ) metropolitan area. The population at the 2000 census was 3,675. In Shadyside are a High School ( Shadyside High School) and the Leona Avenue Middle School and Elementary School Jefferson Elementary.

Near Shadyside is located on the riverbank of the Ohio River, the coal and oil- fired 400 MW power plant RE Burger Plant Ohio Edison. Since 1998, the electro- catalytic oxidation ( ECO) there is tested to reduce the emissions of sulfur and nitrogen oxides as a pilot method.

History

On June 14, 1990 fell during a violent thunderstorm within an hour more than 12 inches of rain on the already water-saturated soil to the streams Pipe and Wegee above Shadyside. The streams were then up to 9 m above sea level and produced a flash flood, in Shadyside 24 people drowned.
