Shahabuddin Ahmed

Shahabuddin Ahmed ( Bengali: শাহাবুদ্দিন আহমেদ, Śāhābuddin Ahamed, born February 1, 1930 Pemoi village, district Netrakona, Bengal, British India ) is a politician from Bangladesh.

Biography

Ahmed came first in 1954, the Civil Service of Pakistan one, changed in 1960, however, the Ministry of Justice.

Just over a month after the independence of Bangladesh on 16 December 1971, he was appointed on January 20, 1972 Supreme Court Judge ( High Court ) of the new country. In January 1990, he was President of the Supreme Court ( Chief Justice ).

Following the resignation of Hossain Mohammad Ershad according organized by the opposition nationwide protests he was on 6 December 1990 under the Constitution by virtue of office acting president. He gained worldwide recognition as such for the implementation of the first free and fair election in the country from which Khaleda Zia emerged on 20 March 1991 as the first female Prime Minister of Bangladesh. After the inauguration of Abdur Rahman Biswas as the new President on 10 October 1991, he returned as Chief Justice back to the Supreme Court and retired in January 1995.

In July 1996, he was elected on the proposal of the new Prime Minister Hasina Wajed as president and entered this office on 9 October 1996 as the successor to Biswas. On 14 November 2001 he gave this office to his chosen successor AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
