Shaker Maker

Shaker Maker is a toy for the preparation of figures. To a powder is mixed with water and poured into a, used in the form of a shaker in a shaker. Due to rapid polymerization of the mixture is pudding -like and dries in a few days out.

Shaker Maker was developed in the early 1970s by the company Ideal Toy Company. It was especially popular in the USA and some countries in Europe until the 1980s. In the 1990s and 2000s it was produced twice each another manufacturer, but no longer had the same success as the original product line.

Gameplay

This is a toy from four years. It has been designed for easy production of figures. The basic element is a powder which is mixed with water polymerized very quickly and therefore is excreted within a few seconds in a consistent mass. The mass is then dried hard but very light. This powder is sold as Magic Mix and you can connect in a specially equipped shaker with water and then pour the mass into predetermined molds. The whole procedure takes no more than five to ten minutes. The figures must then be dried for several days while they decrease by about 50 %. They can then be painted or additionally fitted out.

History

The toy probably developed from an older toys from the 1950s, the Witch Dr. Head shrinker Kit (translated: Witch Doctor Shrunken Head Kit) was called and was produced by the company was founded in 1922 Pressman Toy Corporation. The gameplay was identical. A powder was mixed with water and poured into a mold ( for heads). The heads were then painted and decked with hair and then shrunk in the next 48 hours.

The first Shaker Maker was released by the company Ideal Toy Company. The company was called before 1932 Ideal Novelty and Toy Company and was founded by Morris Michtom 1907 in New York. He was the inventor of the teddy bear. In 1982, the company was sold to CBS Toy Company.

In the early 1990s, the toy was re- produced for a short time by the company Toymax.

Shaker Maker was launched in 2003 again in a new form by the Canadian company Spin Master on the Canadian and U.S. market.

Game material

Facilities include several molds. Furthermore, a mug for the mixing of Magic Mix and a shaker, which is placed over the molds included. Also find in the package are drip trays for the characters during drying, as well as various accessories (eg, synthetic hair, feathers or plastic parts) for the characters that can be inserted into the fresh figure or glued after drying. For painting a brush and paint is included. Also includes up to nine packs of Magic Mix about which earlier in three colors ( ivory, red and blue) could be purchased separately. Today there is the Magic Mix at Spin Master, especially in white and blue. The Magic Mix is only a limited shelf life. Because the powder is not vacuum-packed, it reacts with moisture in the air, and so becomes inactive after a time.

A selection of issued at the companies Shaker Maker sets. The sets ( molds, litter cup, shaker ) of ideal and Toymax are compatible. Spin Master but changed the design and therefore molds, litter beaker and the beaker provided by Spin Master are no longer interchangeable with the sets of the previous companies.

Varia

The band Oasis has composed a song named Shaker Maker. The name was inspired by a Shaker Maker set that Noel Gallagher had in his childhood.
