Shakespears Sister

Shakespears Sister (also Shakespear's Sister) is a British musical project. Originally founded by Siobhan Fahey as a solo project, they eventually formed a duo with Marcella Detroit, which is mainly in 1992 with hits like Stay or Hello ( Turn Your Radio On ) was successful.

Artistic creation

After Siobhan Fahey had alighted at the group Bananarama in early 1988, they began the same year under the name Shakespears Sister on a solo career. Their first single Break My Heart ( You Really ) / Heroine, a double A - side, but flopped. In the production of their first album collaboration with the guitarist and singer Marcella Detroit went so well that the project for the duo extended Fahey ( nevertheless remained the singular form of the name preserved). Detroit first appeared on the cover and in the video of the second single, You're History as a band member in appearance.

In August 1989, published Shakespears Sister released their debut album Sacred Heart, which reached a ranking in the top ten in the UK. The single was also recorded History You're a Top 10 ranking.

The big success came in early 1992 with the second album Hormonally Yours, which made ​​it to # 3 on the British charts. The album was included with Stay also the most successful title of the duo. The song was a worldwide hit and was able to hold its own in the UK eight weeks at the top of the charts. In the fall of 1992 decoupled from the album title Hello ( Turn Your Radio On ) advanced in much of Europe likewise to success and achieved 20 rankings in several countries top.

The end of 1992, there were tensions between Fahey and Detroit, the last joint appearance took place on 6 December of the year at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party. While Detroit in the spring of 1993 left the formation and went his own way, Fahey underwent because of severe depression psychiatric treatment. Since the separation occurred between the two at no more personal contact.

Mid-1996, released in the UK with I Can Drive the last official single, but it only managed to place 30 of the UK Singles Chart. After this rather moderate success, the release of their third album # 3, Fahey had played alone, was rejected by the record label London Records. The work was available only in 2004 and was acquired via the website of Fahey. In the same year a best-of collection with all singles and enclosed DVD with all the videos of the band as well as with titles, which were intended for # 3 appeared.

Since 2009, Fahey occurs again as Shakespears Sister. In November of that year they released the album Songs From The Red Room, which contained mainly solo material in recent years.
