Shakhdara Range

The Schachdara chain (Russian Шахдаринский хребет ) is a mountain range in the autonomous province of Gorno-Badakhshan in Tajikistan in the extreme southwest of the Pamir.
The Schachdara chain forms the watershed between the river Schachdara in the north and the headwaters of the Panj to the south and west. To the east of the 4436 m high Matz Pass forms the transition to eastern South Alitschur chain. The mountain range is divided into the 95 km long Ishkashim chain in the west and the 105- km-long actual Schachdara chain in the central and eastern part. The Schachdara chain reaches Pik Karl Marx a height of 6726 m. The neighboring mountain peak Pik Engels has a height of 6510 m. The Peak Mayakovsky ( 6095 m) is the highest mountain in the Ishkashim chain. The highest peaks are glaciated. The cities Ishkashim and Chorugh are in the Panj valley at the foot of the mountain chain. The total glacier area of the Schachdara chain is given as 433 km ².
