Shamal (wind)

The Schamal (Arabic شمال, DMG Samal, often Shamal ) is withdrawing from the northwest over Iraq and the Persian Gulf summer wind. During the day it can occur quite moderate to severe sandstorms, whereas the wind weakens at night. The sand masses recorded mainly in Jordan and Syria are released back in Iraq, but also over the Persian Gulf. The Shamal can occur several times per year.

The Schamal helps that must be regularly renewed artificial sandy beaches in Dubai by causing erosion and piled up again.
