Shamva

Shamva, the word of the Shona of kindness, is a village of the mining industry with about 5,000 inhabitants, situated in Zimbabwe about 70 km north of Harare in Mazoe Valley in the province of Mashonaland Central. Shamva is the terminus of a branch line of the National Railways of Zimbabwe in Harare.

The village is situated in the northern part of the Great Dyke and was built in 1895 when there was as found in many other parts of the Great Dyke, gold is still mined in the Madziwa mine together with nickel.

In the surrounding cotton, corn, tobacco, and tropical fruits are grown. Shamva has a brewery, a cotton mill and a grain warehouse.

In Shamva 2005 River Estate, the " largest solar village of Africa " was realized as a project. The houses of about 150 peasant families were connected to solar collectors so that each house can operate two light bulbs, a radio and a small TV.
