Writing style and themes

Shan Sa is through their works a connection between China and the Western world began: Her novels she wrote while in French, but all of their work, with the exception of Les Conspirateurs to play in China. In this way it hopes to bring their Western readers closer to the hard to reach, Chinese culture. However, they do never moves away from its position " in -between"; her writing style is similar to neither the one nor the Chinese author of a French native speaker. Your writing style is very poetic and characterized by use of many metaphors. With great precision, she also describes the particular historical context of her stories and scares not afraid to practice in the Chinese social criticism.

In all her novels, Shan Sa is concerned with questions of themselves existentialism. Other common themes are war experiences ( in the narrow sense or in a broader sense in the form of psychological warfare ) and appearing hopeless love relationships.

Shan Sa self-reported that it is now difficult to write their texts in Chinese. Therefore, it concentrates on the French language.

Painting

Her abstract paintings are tribal peoples, exotic plants, riding scenes, wild animals and volcanic eruptions. Da Shan Sas painting is not only influenced by traditional Chinese art, but also of the works of the great European artists, she uses bright colors to represent the target, through the fusion of Eastern and Western colors "life" and "light".

Shan Sa sees a connection between painting and literature, which expresses itself differently depending on the cultural background of the artist: Just as in Chinese tradition painters draw only the outlines, and the poetry is rather suggestive and leave much room for the imagination. The other hand, European artists use many colors and draw all portraits and landscapes, as in poetry also feelings and thoughts of the characters are described directly.
