The Shandong Luneng Taishan F. C. is a football club based in Jinan, China. The club is owned by the Shandong Luneng, a group of companies from China. The club plays in the Chinese Super League, the top league in the country. Play their home games in the club from Shandong province Stadium.
Shandong Luneng is one of the strongest teams in the Chinese professional football and is both the reigning champion as well as Chinese giants: Since the founding of the Chinese Super League in 2004, the club the title ( 2006, 2008 and 2010), won a total of three times.
Club history
The club was founded in 1956 under the name Shandong Provincial Team. From 1973 to 1989, the club played continuously in the highest league. The relegation to the second division, followed in 1990, the descent into the third Chinese league. However, in the following year, the club immediately rose again to around 1994 again in the first league to play. After a 5th place in the first division was in 1995 the first title in the club's history. In the Chinese Association Cup, the Chinese FA Cup, Shandong won against Shanghai Shenhua 2-0. In 1996 they reached the final of the Cup again, but this time went with empty hands back home. 1999 Slobodan Santrač became coach of the club and he had immediate success. After the club previously mostly finished the year in mid-table, could be celebrated in 1999 by winning the championship and winning the Cup even the Double. Despite the success Santrač was released in 2000. His successors had only moderate success. With number 12 the team scored at the end of the 2003 season, even the worst result since the resurgence.
