Shane Kelly

Shane Gerard Kelly, OAM, ( born January 7, 1972 in Ararat ) is a former australischerBahnradsportler and a specialist in the short-term disciplines.

Kelly, who had already been successful in the junior age, in 1992 at the Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona in the second 1000 -meter time trial. He won at the 1993 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Hamar the same place. In 1994 he was third the World Championships and won the 1000 -meter time trial competition at the Commonwealth Games.

1995 Kelly was in Bogotá with a world record time world champion in the 1000 -meter time trial. He defended the title the following year and won another world title with Gary Neiwand and Darryn Hill in the team sprint.

At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta underwent Shane Kelly, who came into office as a world champion and record holder, a serious mistake: When starting the time trial, he slipped his foot out of the pedals and not only drove off.

1997 Kelly became World Champion again on the kilometers in the team sprint, the team was third. 1998 Kelly won his special discipline at the Commonwealth Games, at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships he won the time trial and team sprint each second places. 1999 was followed by another second place finish in the time trial at the World Cycling Championships.

At the Olympic Summer Games 2000 in Sydney Kelly started again in the time trial and won a bronze medal this time. After Kelly had won the 2001 Ozeanienmeisterschaft over the miles, he won at the 2002 World Championships in the second and again in 2003 a third place. In 2004 he competed in the Summer Olympic Games in Athens in the time trial, team sprint and keirin in and won twice the fourth. In Keirinfinale Kelly supported his teammate Ryan Bayley, who won the gold medal, and was itself a third party.

Since the time trial was removed from the program at the Summer Olympic Games in 2008, Kelly moved since 2004 in addition to the Team Sprint increasingly on the discipline Keirin. He was in the Keirin third in the World Championships, in 2006, he occupied the same rank in the team sprint in 2005. At the Olympic Games in 2008, Kelly was able to reach the final of the Keirin and finished fourth.
